Sun Gazette: Campaign season 2012 at the local level formally kicks off the day after Labor Day as the Arlington County Civic Federation holds its annual campaign forum. The event will be part of the federation’s monthly meeting, to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Hazel Auditorium at the Virginia Hospital Center. “There will be forums for County Board and Congress; the uncontested candidates will be allowed to give a statement,” Civic Federation president James Schroll told the Sun Gazette. The County Board race consists of Democratic incumbent Libby Garvey, Republican Matt Wavro and Green Party candidate Audrey Clement. The 8th District U.S. House of Representatives race includes incumbent Democrat Jim Moran, Republican Patrick Murray, Independent Green Janet Murphy and independent Jason Howell. School Board candidates Emma Violand-Sanchez and Noah Simon are running unopposed. Each has been endorsed by the Arlington County Democratic Committee. Last year, because of the large number of candidates and races on the ballot, the Civic Federation event was split in two, with some candidates speaking at the September meeting and some in October. Sept. 4 will be a busy political day on the local scene, as it also is the day of the special election called to fill the 45th House of Delegates seat being vacated by David Englin. Democrat Rob Krupicka and Republican Tim McGhee are on the ballot. | ||
