JOBS, JOBS, JOBS

“If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.”

~ Steve Jobs, Co-Founder, Apple, Inc (and lots of jobs)

As your Congressman, I will work to enhance the job creating environment for innovators, inventors and new entrepreneurs by helping to:

  1. Simplify the tax code by reducing deductions and rates – for the long term
  2. Revise the Dodd-Frank Act so small banks stay small and continue lending to small businesses
  3. Build on the progress of the American Invents Act to speed the approval of patents
  4. Support bipartisan legislation similar to The Startup Act which supports new business

My first job was created from scratch.  In Fairfax County a minor had to be 14 years old and 8 months before qualifying for a work permit.  That wasn’t good enough for me.  I picked myself up, started knocking on doors and offered my neighbors a lawn mowing service.   Though I didn’t have a lawn mower I did earn their trust and their business.  Oh and I earned few dollars as well.  Many politicians have “plans” for job creation but find they cannot because:

Government does not create viable jobs.  You do.

Over the nearly 25 years since I mowed lawns for a living, I’ve worked in retail (Toys R Us) in Annandale, banking in Annandale, Accounting in Falls Church, Tysons and DC and recruiting in Reston.   Unlike my opponents and many career politicians, I have lived through various jobs and industries.  I have had the unique opportunity to help people find jobs as a Recruiter between 2006 and 2009: one of the toughest job seasons in our generation’s history.

Helping find someone a job is a tangible responsibility.  It wears on you, it worries you and it should bother you until they succeed.  This is an experience I have had.  This is the kind of experience more politicians need to have in this job challenged economy.

Experience in private industry, finding jobs for others and knowing to let private industry create jobs MATTERS.
