LIBERTY MATTERS.

In the context of running for office, “Liberty” means holding true to rights granted by our Creator. Along with “Love” and “Leadership” it is one of three important American ideals that will influence my decisions.
Freedom is why this country was founded; and what remains of our freedoms is what makes our country great. Conversations and debates around taxes, human rights, government reform, immigration reform and economic mobility, to me, center around how we view and manage liberty in our country.
I reject the idea that our government is controlled by two parties. As long as our Constitution reads “We the People..” you and I are in charge. For proof we need look further than this clip from The Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government..”
When the approval rating of Congress is anywhere below 20%, they’ve lost the consent of the governed.
Freedom must be defended. It is not inevitable. Let’s help the politicians remember that they must defend the rights of each individual rather than the whims of either party.
